Vacation Bible School 2022

Rocky Railway

JULY 25-29

With a celebration on the evening of July 30th.

Registration for Rocky Railway VBS is now full! If you would like to be on our waiting list, please contact our church office at 269-327-7832.

For many years, St. Michael Lutheran Church has been hosting Vacation Bible School for Portage area families. Two years ago, we served over 380 children from 3-year-olds to 5th graders.  In addition, 180 people volunteered to help with VBS.

Then for the last two years, our plans had to change and go virtual.  Although that was wildly successful, this year in an abundance of caution, we are hosting an in-person Vacation Bible School the week of July 24, 2022.

Our theme is "Rocky Railway – Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through". This opportunity to share with the many families of our church, school, preschool and daycare programs, also gives us a great way to connect within our community friends.

What Will Happen At VBS?

At Rocky Railway VBS, kids discover Jesus’ power can pull them through life’s ups and downs. Rocky Railway is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste!

Sciency-Fun Gizmos™, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. (Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes.)

Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings®.

The children ages 4 yrs.-5th grade will rotate through the various sites of: Sing & Play Express, Bible Adventures, Loco Motion Games, Chew Chew Snacks, KidVid Cinema, Imagination Station and the Rocky Wrap-up.

We need over 100 volunteers! Junior High (current 6-7-8 grades) and High School kids are welcome to assist!

Wellness Policy

At St. Michael, we strive to provide a healthy environment for all and ask that those experiencing symptoms of illness refrain from in-person activities. Due to ongoing Covid concerns, we can’t emphasize enough the importance of following our request. Parents will be notified immediately if a child starts feeling unwell. We appreciate your care and consideration of others.

Weather permitting, we will host our games outdoors for approximately a twenty-minute period. If your child has a concern for sun exposure, we ask that you please apply a sunscreen prior to arriving.

Arrival Details

Arrive by 8:45 am, the first day for sure! VBS programming starts promptly at 9 am and you want to get your child connected with their Crew Leader. Please no drop-offs in the parking lot. An adult should escort a child to their designated spot. Please use our Main Church Entrance (big awning in the middle of the length of the building). Parents will take children to the crew leader that is nearest to the Train Sign COLOR and NUMBER assigned to your child. This information should be emailed to you the week prior to the start of VBS.

Meeting registration friend requests is challenging. We use multi-age groups. This strategy helps with discipline concerns and allows for older kids to become excellent disciples, as they offer assistance to a younger buddy occasionally. Preassigned teams will be set to meet safety ratios. Please prepare your child to be excited for their team.

Pickup Details

Pick-up time will be at 12:00 pm. You are welcome to arrive a few minutes early, however, please refrain from taking your child out until the Rocky Wrap-up Leaders dismiss the kids. For safety, all kids are dismissed to their assigned adult or emergency contact friend only.

Treats for the tracks will be shared daily. Skinny Pop Popcorn will be available for those that might need an alternative. If your child has an allergy or a dietary concern that would prohibit them from eating any of these snacks, please send an alternative snack in a baggie with their name attached. This should be given to the Registration Team to ensure that it gets to the kitchen area.
